An important skill for all job seekers is to hear what people say & mean. Hence this workshop is designed to help you explore and experience effective listening. Listening is a challenge because our minds are constantly evaluating and filtering information. Listening helps us access new ideas and inspiration. At the same time, it is possible to say nothing and still be heard. Facial expressions and physical gestures often say as much as words. It is essential to use questions and observation to check how our position differs from other peoples’. It also teaches us to never assume we know where someone is coming from until we have checked. It’ll teach us to develop sensitivity to the sentiment behind what people say - & we can do this by observing their behaviours and picking up on how they say the words they say. Once they have mastered the art of really listening, it’s time to build bridges. Participants explore where micro-messages show up, what their impact is and how they can use them to their benefit, especially when it comes to building connections in a job search.
